Pam & Philip in the UAE
Wonders will never cease as my cousin Philip & his wife Pam, our longtime friends, ventured here to the UAE to visit us. It was a wonderful surprise for Pam on her 60th birthday when Philip went out and bought tickets for them both to travel to this part of the world and gave them to her as a surprise. Only 5 years ago they hadn't left Australia and nervously they set out on their first adventure to a foreign country when they came to visit us in Malaysia in 2005. They enjoyed it so much and now they are less nervous about travelling overseas and they are excited to be able to meet us in a different country, experience a different culture and visit new places.
We made the most of their time with us and we went out on one of our student's boats in the 'Khor' where he took us to see the old souk, the fish market and a popular spot with locals for eating and smoking shisha. We also caught up with the boat that was launched recently that I mentioned in a previous blog. It's now afloat and docked where the hull's being fitted out with rooms, decking and cargo storage areas. This process will take another 12 -18mths before it'll be ready to ply trade along the ancient sea routes between India and the Middle East.
We also did a day trip up to Mussandam , 'Norway of the Middle East' where we went out on a wooden dhow and spent 61/2 hrs relaxing, looking at the amazing scenery and going swimming in the waters of the Arabian Sea.
They've now moved on to visit Malaysia and spend some time in Kuala Lumpur and Penang before heading back to Adelaide and their home in Naracoorte. Thanks for visiting us guys.............. it's always great to be able to spend some quality time with you and to show you our interesting life in this part of the world.
