Last Wednesday was Environment Day here at the Ras Al khaimah Men's College. The college put on various displays, there were guest speakers on various topics and the local schools were involved too.
I went to a talk on 'We are what we eat: benefits of organic food' by a guy who runs an organic food shop and cafe www.organicfoodsandcafe.com , we sang a song about 'Reduce, Re-use & Recycle', I found out that there are 102 different types of dates in the UAE and I tasted some really great honey. Check out the pics. Jan went to a talk on turtles becoming an endangered species in the UAE. The local schools had an exhibition of pictures and models etc made from junk. There were some pretty cool items there. The college students painted some old oil drums and showed us some of the environmental implications of the IT industry.
It was agreat day and everybody learned a lot. Let's hope that they now put some of the ideas that they learnt into practice.
Our classes are still going well and we have settled into our villa (had a trip to IKEA in Dubai last week end to pick up a few bits and pieces). The weather is still cool at night but starting to warm up during the day. Can't wait for it to hit 45!!!
