As the HQ of our company is in Abu Dhabi, we had to go down last Thursday for our medicals. We decided to stay overnight because a) it was a long way to drive there and back in one day and b) we'd never been there before. Accomodation is pretty expensive and many hotels were booked out, but we managed to get into the Hilton Hotel through one of those on-line last minute deal sites. It was really great because when we went to check in, they said that there were no more 'normal rooms' left so they would upgrade us to the 'executive floor'! Needless to say we had a great night. Especially at the Jazz Bar in Hemingways where the music and food were superb.
The medical didn't take very long so then we went exploring Abu Dhabi. There are some photos in Our Photo Albums, so check em out. Especially the Palace of the Emirates hotel which is one heck of a grand place (and no it wasn't available in the last minute deals!). It had some great exhibitions though.
On the way back we called into the Dubai Men's College where the TESOL Arabia conference was being held. We caught up with some of the staff from the RAK college who were attending the conference and some old friends from CfBT.
Today I'm at the office catching up with some e-mails and writing this blog. Jan has gone shopping.
Hope all are well and the South Australian contingent is managing to find some respite from the heat!
