For all those 'in the know', you would have known that Wednesday was another milestone in Ron's life: he turned 60! Many thanks to the overseas friends and family who sent cards and SMSs. They were very much appreciated.
Unfortunately, it was a normal workday at the college as nobody had told the government about this momentous occasion. However, his students all sang Happy Birthday to him and got the college canteen to supply some rather nice cakes and juice for the morning break. Jan was of course invited to share the in the celebration.
The next evening being a Thursday (and the start of the week end for us in the UAE) we had a bit of a barbie at our villa for a few of the people that we have made friends with at the college. A new Webber had been purchased the previous weekend and was put to good use in cooking a nice leg of Aussie lamb, some potatoes, a butternut pumpkin, onions and a rather large fish. It was all accompanied by an assortment of salads and washed down with some Foster's and a few bottles of good Aussie wine!
Ron was very lucky to get some nice presents from his friends which included a rather fun clock!
It wasn't too late a night but everybody enjoyed themselves and many thanks must go to all who helped in the celebration. A special thank you to Jan for all the shopping and preparation that she did beforehand. Some photos are in the pictures folder.
