Another week goes by and didn't we have fun!

Last week end, as promised, we took Pam to the Burj Al Arab Hotel for afternoon tea. I'm sure most people have seen it on TV, as I had, but the real thing is just spectatular. After we picked her up from her quilter friend's house we had a couple of hours to spare so we headed over to the new Dubai Mall shopping centre. It's only been open a few weeks and it's supposed to be the biggest and the best mall in the Middle East, the world .... Well we thought it was pretty amazing as did Pam. Not every shop is open yet but there were plenty that were. They also have this huge aquarium right in the centre that goes up three floors.

After leaving there, and getting a little lost, we arrived at the Burj just after five. Just in time for tea. Well tea was nothing like my Mum used to make! I didn't see a cucumber sandwhich anywhere! We started off with a glass of Moet champagne and some very nice sandwhiches with all sorts of fillings before being served a delicious slice of baked salmon wrapped in filo pastry from the carvery. Some strawberry sorbet to cleanse the palette was next followed by scones with 'jam' and cream. Oh, and the tea came out about then too. Although the girls had hot chocolate. After that we were all very full when the waitress came around with another tray of cakes and pastries just to finish off with!! What an 'afternoon tea'! All that was left was to waddle to the car and drop Pam off at the airport then head back to RAK. Needless to say we skipped dinner that night.

Monday was Environment Day at the college and the theme for this year was, "Green Futures". The 'band' played several times through the day and was very well received. There were lots of exhibits, all with some tie to the theme, and several invited speakers. Everybody seemed to have a good day and the Dean was very happy with the way it all went off. I'll put some pictures into the slide show and also into the Photo Albums.
