Saturday April 25th

Today is ANZAC Day in Australia. No public holiday this year though as it's on a Saturday.
Yesterday Jan & I went to Dubai to shop for work shirts for me. We had breakfast first at a really nice restaurant called The Lime Tree which does gourmet type breakfasts. Lots of ex-pats go there and it's really packed on a Friday morning. Then we headed for the Dubai Outlet Mall. As the name implies, it's all outlet shops for loads of the top name brands. Discount prices are the name of the game and I got some great shirts at very reasonable prices. On the way home we called into the Venus Indian restaurant which is just down the road from us (Darius & Kristi have sampled the fare).

Last Wednesday the college had its annual Poetry Day where staff and students read poems they have written or just like. I did a rendition of Clancy of the Overflow illustrated with slides to give the guys some idea of what I was talking about. To finish off, a group of the staff do a poem and this year we did one called 'The Spectators', which was about people at a football match. It was quite funny and the students really enjoyed it.

Tomorrow afternoon some of us are going to a conference in Sharjah on using technology in teaching. Then next weekend we have a conference for all the military teachers from the different colleges and that's being held in Al Ain, which is a little way out of Abu Dhabi on the way to Oman. I believe this is the first time that there's been one where everybody has got together at the one time. We're looking forward to meeting the other teachers and hearing what kind of things they have been doing with their students. As it's quite a drive, Jan & I have decided to go down on Saturday and stay the night so we will also have a chance to see more of the place. We called in there briefly last year when we went to Oman, but didn't see a lot of the city.

Hope all of you are going well and we look forward to seeing some of you in July when we head to Malaysia and Australia for our long holiday!.
