Hi, all!
Well it's been a busy week here in RAK. The car decision has been made! Sorry Laura, but the Pajero won out. I did like the Mazda very much, but if we want to really go off-roading, then we need a proper off-road vehicle. As cars are cheaper in Oman, we have actually imported ours from a town called Dibba, which is actually part of Oman although it looks as if it's in the UAE on the map. It came on a low loader the other day. We now have to wait for the customs papers to come through and then I can apply for the UAE registration plates. All good fun but frustrating to see it in the drive and I can't take it out for a spin!!! Hopefully it will all be done by next week end.
Mum was getting bored last week so I went and bought her a jig-saw puzzle of Red Square. She has been doing it bit by bit and getting a little help from Sheeba. She went to the doc's on Wed and he's let her go back to work. Yesterday was a bit of a struggle for her but she made it through the day. She's still in quite a bit of pain and is pretty weak.
I was up at 5:30 this morning (Mum opted to stay in bed) and went with one of the guys from work to the camel races at Digdagga. One of my students races camels so went to see what goes on. Apparently some years ago they used real jockeys and there were problems because they used to starve the jockeys so they were nice and light. Real jockeys were then banned so now they have a radio controlled whip strapped to the camel's back. The guys then race along beside the track operating the radio control from their cars. It's quite a site to see! I took quite a few piccies so check out the Photo Albums and see what it looked like.
Tomorrow night I'm going bowling with a group from the college. Jan will hopefully be there to cheer me on.
